Making Real Changes In the lives of our Communities
We had a vision to reach out into local communities, we wanted to know who lived in the surrounding communities and be known as a people that cared so the Heart to Heart event was launched by the Have a Heart Trust. From listening to the conversations of those who attended each of the Heart to Heart events, Chris and the leaders became acutely aware of the needs for food security and the need for debt management skills…
And so the Heart Strings project was created to benefit the vulnerable and socially disadvantaged children, young people and their families in our communities.
Tamiana and Honey Thrupp have lived in Taneatua for a number of years and know first-hand the importance of this project. Tamiana has been the Amorangi for the Waimana Pastorate for the past 9 years. They felt a calling to a new ministry and were appointed to this project.
We were blessed to have an empty section on our street and very honoured when the owner of the property Helen Te Waara allowed us to use the section and so our project begun. This was a pilot project as many had tried to create a community garden space but was unsuccessful.
Our Covenant
Our mission for the Heart Strings Project is to reduce poverty in Taneatua & surrounding rural communities through the provision of budgeting advice, growing local food for local people, and putting whanau at the centre and believing in their potential. To create opportunities for food security through the development of community gardens and social enterprise initiatives to benefit the vulnerable and socially disadvantaged children, young people, and their families.
We value being the Kaitiaki of the land, and seeing the ripple effect of demonstrating God’s aroha.
The Heart Strings Community
Tamiana and Honey work with a small group of volunteers who have sound budgeting knowledge and are well connected in the local community. They have a vision to develop and walk alongside families and encourage them to grow their own food through community gardens and their local backyards. They also provide Pastoral care to those in their area.
