Thanks to heaps of hard mahi, determination, and collaboration, our community space "Be:Long" is open! 👊👊![]()
The corner of King Street and Victoria Ave (opposite Gibbos Fresh Fish and next to Kope Indian Cuisine) is a place where we can all be:long. That is – a place we feel part of, and a place we can hang out for a long time without feeling like we need to be moved on. 🌈🌈![]()
Enjoy - and add to - the gardens our rangatahi from EmployNZ Whakatane have been developing. Skate or scoot on the ramp rangatahi from Whakatane High School built for you. Practice your street art on the legal graffiti walls. Eat your takeaways on the grass or on the pallet furniture we built together. And look out for the basketball hoop and play trailer that should be making appearances soon too! 🌻🥬🥕🏀🛹🛴🖌🎨🍔🍤🍜🍦![]()
Big shout out to all those who have helped make this happen and come on the journey with us, particularly the rangatahi of EmployNZ, Whakatāne High School, Trident High School + Pohutukawa Preschool Whakatane, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Innovative Streets Programme, Bunnings Warehouse New Zealand, Stihl Shop Whakatane, Nikau Valley Farms, Whakatāne District Council, and Toi Te Ora Public Health for help with supplies, supporting the mahi, and securing the space. Not to mention all the members of our community who have encouraged us, donated seedlings, and weed-wacked, etc. 🙏🙏![]()
